Funding Sources
Philanthropic Funding SourcesPhilanthropic funding is received from local and national foundations, corporations, religious groups, and individuals. In addition, community groups including Center Stage and DC Swim for Life, sponsor events annually which name AIRS as the beneficiary of monies contributed. AIRS relies on unrestricted individual donations and corporate giving to cover operating expenses. AIRS also receive support through federated campaigns including United Way of Central Maryland, Combined Federal Campaign, Combined Charity Campaign and the Maryland Charity Campaign. We receive funds from over 25 philanthropic organizations and foundations, and have a donor base of over 200 individuals.
Public Funding Sources
AIRS receives significant support through federal funding programs including the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Supportive Housing Program, Shelter Plus Care, and HOPWA (Housing Opportunity for Persons with AIDS); and, Health and Human Service's Ryan White Care Act. State support comes from the State of Maryland's Department of Human Resources' Project Home AIDS and Medical Assistance Program, and Maryland State Department of Housing and Community Development. We manage over 13 contracts under 7 federal and state sources. The Board of Directors are required to "give and get" financially. Board Members contribute in several ways including direct donation and employer match. They also support the development staff by participating in donor solicitations, event ticket sales, and providing in-kind goods and services, reducing costs to the agency.
Annual Budget
For the fiscal year 2007, AIRS and EHM have a combined budget of $3.3 million, almost half of which is federal pass through used for rent subsidies and utility assistance.
