Our "milestone" fundraising campaign and signature event celebrate many stakeholders- individuals, corporations, nonprofits, government agencies, religious, and community groups--who represent our past and our future.
City Steps
CITY STEPS
AIRS has developed a range of programming under the CITY STEPS banner that addresses the specific problems of transition-aged homeless youth ages 18-24. Interventions at such a critical time in life have the capacity to be transforming, and in so doing, prevent future episodes of homelessness or exposure to trauma.
STOMP - POPULAR OPINION LEADER
S.T.O.M.P. is a peer-led prevention and education initiative focusing on safe sex practices within the homeless youth community throughout Baltimore. Recommended youth from the target population are provided with training on the facts of HIV/AIDS in their community, as well as simple prevention techniques, and how to use their social networks to get the word out. We also track referrals to care and community resources. Over time, it is our hope to develop a corps of youth advisors who will assist with appropriate resource building in the Baltimore community.
CARRIAGE HOUSE - TRANSITIONAL LIVING PROGRAM FOR YOUTH
The Carriage House Transitional Living Program provides supportive case management, independent living skills training, educational and job coaching to support job skills and income growth for homeless youth and is the only such program in the state of Maryland! Seven youth are provided with supportive housing for up to 18 months while, up to 50 youth receive non-residential services in preparation for housing, or providing referrals to a range of community services.
CITY STEPS RESOURCE CENTER
Residential services are available for single young men and women, age 18-21, with a history of homelessness and a readiness to take advantage of support services. All the persons assisted will be 16-24 years old, 50% female; 90% African-American; and all have incomes under 30% of the area median income.
YOUTH SPACE BALTIMORE - PERMANENT HOUSING FOR HOMELESS YOUTH
Youth Space Baltimore is our supportive Permanent Housing Program for Youth, age 18-24. 20 mixed units (some single, some for families), are at scattered sites throughout the City, available to youth with a history of homelessness and with a qualifying disability. All residents receive case management and independent living skills training, and pay a portion of their income toward rent and utilities.
The program serves a heavily African American population, all with low income. Priorities are set on healthy life style, education completion and work maintenance and growth.
RESTORATION GARDENS—(Future—Opening in 2010)
Restoration Gardens, a 43-unit housing complex, is a permanent supportive housing project located in the Southern Park Heights neighborhood of Baltimore City. Now in its pre-development phase, the program is envisioned as a service-rich facility open to single young men and women, age 18-24, with a history of homelessness. Staff will be available to guide, inspire and coach residents on a range of educational, health, and work issues, as well as support the activities of an active tenant association.
